Services > Obtain a national identity card

Every citizen must obtain a National Identity Card. The following describes the procedure.

Location: Secretariat of the Dhaandhoo Council
Service available: 08:10am to 03:00pm, working days.
No. of visits required: 2 (two)

  • Citizens must be registered in a house/flat/dhaftharu of Maldives.
  • For citizens above 18 years, two witnesses should be presented to Council with their national identity card.
  • For students registered in schools/colleges & citizens below 18 years, the parent should be present & should have his/her national identity cards.
  1. Submit the filled application form with necessary documents (listed in ‘documents & forms required’) to our office.
  2. Give your finger print & signature once your photograph is taken & obtain the originals of all the documents submitted with the application form.
  3. When informed to collect the identity card, come to our office & obtain the identity card after signing to confirm that you received the identity card.
  4. If you want to collect the identity card from Male’ (applied through our office) fax a letter through our office or write on the side of application form the name & address of the person who will collect the identity card. Otherwise the cards will be available from our office (card owners mother, father, or kin does not have to bring a letter)

  • Previous ID card (if renewing)
  • Birth certificate (original)
  • Original passport (if present)
  • Any documents issued by National Registration (if present)
